Local student graduates from SFA with 4.0

Gayla Tollett of Buffalo graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University during summer commencement with a 4.0 grade point average and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies degree in early childhood education.

Since graduation Tollett has begun to teach fifth grade science and art at Buffalo Middle School.

Tollett is the wife of Dan Tollett and the daughter of Jerry and Earline Pate. She is also the mother of Ty and Tori Tollett.

Among the students graduating with a 4.0 are Barbara Caldwell of Eustace, Ashley Childress of Hemphill, Andrea Locke of Center, Katya Sczepanik of Panna Maria, Amy Shackelford of Port Neches and Karen Taylor of Kilgore.

Nearly 600 students received degrees during summer commencement ceremonies beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday August 14 in William R. Johnson Coliseum. Three doctorates, 151 master’s degrees and 421 bachelor’s degrees were awarded.

Texas State Representative Dan Branch of Dallas will be the commencement speaker.
