Centerville’s proposed school tax rate remains the same

Following a budget meeting the Centerville ISD Board of Trustees held a short special meeting on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 in the High School Library. All board members were present.

August 30, 2010 was set for the public meeting to discuss the budget and proposed tax rate. The tax rate of $1.04 was approved to be published in the public notice.

Jason Jeitz, Elementary Principal, discussed the accountability rating for his campus. He explained the campus was rated as Recognized. Students showed gains in Reading/ELA, Writing, Mathematics, and Science. Of the ten measures, Centerville Elementary scored Exemplary on eight of them. Dan Parker, Junior-Senior High School Principal, reported a Recognized rating for his campus. The campus was judged on fourteen measures. Of the fourteen, seven measures were Exemplary.

Superintendent Cathy Nichols expressed disappointment in the “Academically Acceptable” ranking the district received overall. Nineteen measures were evaluated on the district level. Twelve of those measures were rated as Exemplary, six were Recognized, and one was Academically Acceptable. One of the student groups in Mathematics scored below the required 80% for Recognized; thus, a rating of Academically Acceptable was assigned to the District. Mrs. Nichols explained the scores will be evaluated further using the Data Management System. Principals and teachers will be meeting to discuss plans for improving these scores.

Carole Dickey presented the fuel bids. Three bids were received – H&L Wholesale, K.D. Timmons, and Ryder Oil. The bid from K.D. Timmons was accepted for 6 cents above rack price.
