The Oakwood Panther's high school football team traveled to Bynum Saturday, August 14, for their first scrimmage of the season. This scrimmage was a fourway including Oakwood, Bynum, Iredale, and Covington. According to Offensive Coordinator Coach Tommy Tritz, "the boys did really well out there."
In the first offensive series versus Iredale, ten plays were run but there were no scores. The second was versus Bynum. In that game, Jerome Dawson had an amazing 40-yard touchdown run. Although he did not get the score, Shaquille Caldwell showed some real "get up and go" with a 32-yard reception. The third series versus Covington found Marcus Howard picking up a TD off a 15-yard pass thrown by Oakwood's quarterback, Travis Eldridge. Howard then ran the ball in for a second touchdown. Robert Myrick also picked up a touchdown in this series off an 8-yard run. In the fourth series versus Iredale, Damiyne Durham got a touchdown reception and Jerome Dawson had a rushing TD. There were no scores in the fifth series after the 10 plays. In the sixth, versus Covington, Myrick picked up the first touchdown run. James (Junior) Edwards picked up the next TD off a nice 35 yard run. Eldridge had a sweet pass to Durham that resulted in a 40 yard touchdown. Both Dawson and Louis Collins rushed 40 yards to pick up a TD a piece. The final series was live against Bynum. In this "game like" series, Edwards got a 38 yard TD rush. Dawson got a an amazing 60 yard TD rush and then Durham turned around and picked up the last TD off a 50 yard pass.
^^ The Oakwood Panthers get good use out of their full pad workout.
The Panthers are continuing their 2-a-day training this week with the addition off full pads (to go along with all that full contact hitting) and will be hosting Tyler's Kings Academy this Saturday at 10:00AM for another scrimmage before the official games begin on August 28. >> Louis
