Van’Go’photo The Bison hosted Normangee and Teague in a threeschool controlled scrimmage (15 offensive plays, then 15 defensive) on Saturday, August 14. There was plenty of action for the fans as each school brought freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams, and at times there was play going on simultaneously at both ends of Brewer Field. Even so, the scrimmage lasted until early afternoon, with the summer sun blistering down at 102+.

VARSITY:

In varsity play, BHS started off on offense against Teague. The Tigers stopped the Bison ground attack in the opening series, but a pass from QB Ryan Read to Jose Dominguez was good for a 50+ yard TD. Continuing on offense, the Bison then marched steadily across the field. Read took a look at several receivers, connecting with Travis Cunningham, Aurelio Dominguez and Saxton Sims, and was intercepted once on a busted play. Au- relio Dominguez picked up good yardage on the ground and that drive ended with Jose Dominguez punching it into the endzone from the tailback position.

Switching to defense, Colton Henson led the defensive effort in both tackles and enthusiasm. BHS took advantage of their opponent's errors, with Read picking off a Tiger pass and Jonathan Cates jumping on a fumble. The defense did not let THS into the endzone, despite the fact that Teague had 1st down at the Bison 13-yard line.

Against Normangee, the Bison's #1 line and #2 skill kids went eight plays, then the lineup switched for the last seven plays. Buffalo moved the ball right down the field and Jacob Rodell scored from inside the 5-yd-line.

Squaring off against Normangee, the JV Bison started with a big gain by Marcos Mata, but had a little trouble executing later and will be working to eliminate fumbles before the season starts. Buffalo's defense did not get many plays to work on, as the Panthers struggled to get clean snaps. When they did, however, BHS dominated. Pierce Johnson led his teammates in tackles and the Bison allowed Normangee only two first downs.

Later in the day BHS returned to the field for just a few plays against Teague in a simulated overtime. BHS managed one first down, then went 3-and-out. THS scored on their possession.

FRESHMEN:

The Freshmen faced Teague and the BHS defense allowed one score. Switching to offense, Buffalo chewed up the turf with Brendan Smith and Trent Martin leading the charge up the middle and QB Logan Jones, Bobby Dorman and Adam Simpson speeding around the ends. Jones scored twice on runs.
