Oakwood Coach dies in field house

OISD loses Coach just days before the start of the new school year
By Melissa Missildine

The Oakwood Panther football team witnessed what was probably the most shocking event of their young lives shortly after 2-a-day practice began on Wednesday.  Defensive Coordinator (and ISS teacher), Coach Steve Davis, passed out onto the floor of the locker room at Panther Stadium.  They watched as efforts were made to revive their beloved coach.  Despite those efforts, Davis died at the scene.  Although it appeared to be a heart attack, that cannot be confirmed until after an autopsy is performed.  There is no word on services for Davis, as the family is waiting on the results of the autopsy.
Coach Davis did not exhibit any obvious symptoms in the days leading up to the event that would indicate a problem.  He attended 2-a-day practice on both Monday and Tuesday and was his typical gung-ho self.  He also attended the EE Club welcome back breakfast on Monday morning and seemed to be in good spirits and excited about the upcoming school year.
As service details come in, we will do our best to keep the community apprised.
