City of Buffalo calls for compliance with animal registration ordinance The governing body of the city of Buffalo is issuing this statement due to the growing concern for the community’s health and safety. They have found it necessary to remind citizens of City Ordinance #252277. This ordinance requires citizens residing within the corporate city limits of Buffalo to register any pet that is over three months of age. The ordinance applies to cats as well as dogs. Registration can be completed at City Hall for a small fee ($2.00 - $4.00) after which a city tag will be issued. A current rabies vaccination certificate must be presented prior to registration. All tags are valid for one year and must be renewed annually. Pet owners are responsible for any lost or destroyed tags. Any animal found untagged will be considered to be unregistered and the owner will be issued a citation. On the first offense, registered animals found roaming stray will be returned to the owner without fines or fees. However, all applicable fines will apply for subsequent violations. Citizens will be granted a period of thirty days from the date of this publication to comply before this ordinance will be enforced by the animal control officer. Anyone who wishes to review current city ordinances may do so at City Hall. Citizens may also direct complaints of stray animals or other animal related concerns to City Hall between 8 A.M. to 5 P.M at (903) 322-4741. |
