Cynthia Torno returns to the classroom

      What is the old saying?... "You can take the teacher out of the classroom, but you can't...call a Rose by any other name!"...? Something like that, anyway. The point is, Cynthia Torno loves to teach, and after a sixyear hiatus when she concentrated her energies in her family's real estate business, she is returning to the classroom.

Gillit joins BISD Third Grade Team
      Buffalo’s third graders may be an energetic bunch, but they will have nothing on their new teacher, Jenna Gillit. Ms Gillit jokingly describes herself as “effervescent! -- like an Alka Seltzer!” and is indeed a bubbly, high-energy young lady who is extremely excited about teaching.

Amy Moffett joins Buffalo Elementary staff
      Amy Moffett joins the Buffalo Elementary School teaching staff this year as one of the five First Grade teachers at the fastgrowing campus. Principal Johnny Veretto commented that it is a good thing the district was able to open a fourth school this year, as his campus would have been totally out of room otherwise.

      OISD's new principal, Judy Thomason, held a new teacher orientation meeting in the Oakwood High School library on Monday. These six new members of the teaching staff were anxious to get the technicalities out of the way and get into their classrooms.

Nelson earns Academic All-American status
      Bearcat distance runner Chad Nelson was named Academic All-American after earning a 4.0 during the spring track season at Lon Morris College. Out of all the students earning the Academic All American designation nationwide, only ten could boast a 4.0. It was Nelson second consecutive 4.0, having also achieved it during the 2009 fall Cross- Country season.
