A good crowd of football fans got a pre-season look at the 2010 Bison team at the annual Purple/Gold Scrimmage on Saturday morning. Head Coach Mark Read had enough varsity players to make up both an offense and a defensive unit when the Bison squared off for the first time in pads. The JV and Freshmen squads also matched up, giving the coaches a good look at their entire team. More ... The new BHS gyms were broken in properly on Saturday morning when the Lady Bison volleyball teams hosted Crockett and Normangee in a three-team scrimmage. There were freshmen, junior varsity and varsity contests throughout the morning and early afternoon, taking ad- vantage of the competition court and both courts in the practice gym. More ... Despite the heat, two-adays must go on. That is the summertime reality in Texas. With their second season of six-man football coming up in just a week's time, the Oakwood Panthers are hitting the field twice a day...and they are hitting it hard. More ... Over the last week, the OHS Lady Panthers have been hitting the court, training for the upcoming volleyball season. The first game is this Friday, so there has not been a lot of practice time. More ... The Oakwood Junior High and High School Cheerleaders hosted a mini-cheer camp this last week, with 24 enthusiastic participants. From 6:00 to 8:00 each night, the cheerleaders taught the mini-cheerleaders several cheers and a couple of dances. On Friday night, the parents were invited to come out to watch the girls put on a performance. More ... The Centerville Tigers football team has 25 varsity and 25 JV players on the field after the first week of practice. CHS returns 12 lettermen including All-District running back Jonathan Cloud. The Tigers will be young this year with only six seniors returning. Several sophomores will be on the varsity. The Tigers have four starters on defense and four on offense returning this year. The Centerville Lady Tigers volleyball team returns four starters from last year’s team including setter Taylor Sullivan, middle blocker Christy Wellman, and outside hitters Jill Griffin and Alexia Scarbrough. Senior Becca Smith had a shoulder injury last year that kept her from participating but Crafton is expecting her to be one of the leaders this year. More ... The Leon Cougars football team will be returning 16 lettermen from the playoff team of 2009. Junior Kirby Watson will return to guide the offense and All-District senior lineman Cason McCune will anchor the defense. More ... The Leon Lady Cougars kick off their season against Mexia on August 9th and host a strong Caldwell team at home on August 10th. Coach Jason Evans and his assistant coaches Vickie Carrigan, Deanna Engleman, and Deuce Foley look forward to having another successful season this year. More ... |
