Freestone shooting leaves one dead

Freestone County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a disturbance on FM-1365, approximately one mile west of Teague on August 3rd at 11:21PM. While Deputies were enroute to the scene they were notified that shots had been fired. Deputies arrived at the scene, a private residence, at 11:28PM. Deputies observed one man on the ground in a side yard, with multiple gunshot wounds. Medical assistance was rendered to this man by Teague Medics.

Deputies secured the scene and began their investigation. Apparently, an altercation developed between several people on scene. The wounded individual was identified as Daguberto Castro of Mexia, age 26. He was transported to ETMC Fairfield where he was pronounced dead.

Arrested was Evan C. DeVillier of Teague who was transported to Freestone County Jail on a charge of Murder.

Sheriff’s Deputies, Investigators, one Texas Ranger and the DPS Portable Crime Lab were all on scene participating in the investigation.
