Van The powers that be in UIL declared August 2nd as the opening date for local schools to begin pre-season practices. Larger schools -- those which held Spring Training -- will have to wait a week. Buffalo High School’s football program began holding “two-a-days” on Monday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. A second workout follows later in the evening, in order to avoid the heat of the day.

Seventy-three eager players showed up Monday afternoon for the first workout, led by a strong group of 15 returning seniors.

Head Coach Mark Read is assisted by a staff of both new and familiar faces. Clay Hodges returns as defensive coordinator. Jack Ard is working with the defensive linemen, and Warren Ringland with the defensive secondary. Vic Wheeler will again be coaching the receivers. Newcomer Brent Bennett is working with the offensive line and Jim O’Neal with the outside linebackers. (SEE introductions, below). E.J. Jones will be the head coach in the junior high program and will assist at the high school with the running backs.
