The BISD school board met in special session on Monday evening, July 26, with an important objective: to approve the hiring of a new assistant principal for Buffalo High School. They unanimously voted to employ Geoffery Bowdoin in that position. They also approved a budget amendment.
Bowdoin (pronounced like Bowden) comes to BHS from a stint as a teacher/ coach at Leon High. He grew up in Grapeland, Texas graduating from GHS and then attending Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches. After earning his degree in 2002, Bowdoin return to Grapeland where he began his career in educa- tion with a five-year stint as a teacher, coach and ultimately as Girls Athletic Director. Most recently he has been teaching PE and coaching at Leon High, and two years ago he began post-graduate studies in Educational Administration at Lamar University. Bowdoin completed that degree this May.
The early summer was also a special time in Geoff Bowdoin’s personal life. He and Leon softball coach DeAnna Engleman were recently married. With a new degree, new wife, and now new job, Bowdoin admits, “It’s been a roller coaster...”
Bowdoin is excited about joining the staff at BHS and explained, “I’ve grown up knowing about Buffalo and they’re starting to go the right direction. I want to be a part of something great and they are headed down that road. I’m excited about helping continue that growth.”
Asked what he does in his spare time, Bowdoin stated that his focus is on his four-year-old daughter, Emilee, and he enjoys the outdoors -- hunting, fishing and playing golf. “As an educator,” he pointed out, “you have very little free time. If there’s something going on with the kids, I’m going to be there if possible to support the kids. They see you there and they notice. They know you care and that makes my job easier...”
