John Ragan assumes responsibilities as President of NRG’s Texas Region

John Ragan John Ragan HOUSTON, July 23, 2010—John Ragan is now NRG Energy’s Regional President, Texas and an Executive Vice President for the Company. In this capacity, Mr. Ragan is responsible for managing NRG’s largest regional power generation portfolio totaling more than 10,500 megawatts of power in Texas, and NRG's retail electric provider, Reliant Energy. He previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing Companywide Plant Operations, Commercial Operations, Environmental Compliance, as well as Engineering, Procurement and Construction. Prior to this, he served as Executive Vice President and Regional President, Northeast from December 2006 to February 2009. Prior to joining NRG, Mr. Ragan was Vice President of Trading, Transmission, and Operations at FPL Energy in 2006 and also served as Vice President of Business Management for FPL’s Northeast Region from August 2005 through July 2006. Previously, Mr. Ragan served in increasing roles of responsibility for Mirant Corporation from 1996 through 2004, notably as Senior Vice President of Trading and Commercial Operations for Mirant’s North American operations, and later as Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Mirant’s International Group. Mr. Ragan began his career in energy in 1983 with Getty Oil Company in the company's upstream exploration and production division. Mr. Ragan holds an MBA in Finance from Tulane University A.B. Freeman School and Master and Bachelor of Science degrees from West Virginia University.

Kevin Howell, the former President of NRG’s Texas Region, has elected to retire from the Company.
