OISD hires principal
      After accepting Johnny Taylor's resignation last month as "Dean of Students", OISD will get something it hasn't had in quite some time... a principal. In a special meeting Monday night, the OISD School Board voted to pull from their pool of current employees and hired one of their own for the position. The new principal will be Judy Thomason who has been serving as Curriculum Specialist.

Violence program advocates sought
     The Leon County Domestic Violence Advocate Program is about to hold a new training session for those interested in becoming advocates for the program. Next session will be in July 6 to 9 pm on the 20th and the 22nd and all day on the 24th.

Warren graduates basic training
      Air Force Airman Christopher M. Warren graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

      07-07-10 Deputy Jack Tomlinson was dispatched to a business on Main Street in Jewett in reference to a burglary alarm. Deputy Chris Nash responded to CR 480 near Centerville for the report of an alarm and suspicious activity. Deputy Chris Nash was dispatched to CR 102 near Leona for a complaint of loose livestock horses on a neighbor’s property.

“The King and I” comes to Palestine
      Fans of the musical theater don't have to travel far for a fix this month. The Palestine Community Theatre troope is performing Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic, "The King and I" at the beautifully restored Texas Theatre in downtown Palestine. Opening night was Friday, July 16th and the show will run through this weekend.
