Work continues on the petition to detach Lone Star from OISD Members of the Flo Community Tax Payers Association and other concerned residents met Thursday night at the Lone Star Community Center to review the number of names acquired on the petition to withdraw from the Oakwood Independent School District. Led by Flo resident Barbara Johnson, the group attained within the first week more than a third of the signatures required to have their case reviewed. The authority for the Proposition comes from the State of Texas Statutes (laws) related to School Districts. The group is proceeding under the statute. Along with other considerations, Johnson said approximately 22% of Oakwood students have chosen to attend schools out of their home district of OISD. The majority of transfer students are enrolled in Buffalo and Centerville Schools. A letter has been presented to each of the school districts involved to inform them of the group’s intentions to pursue their rights under the law. Johnson said that she is working very diligently to be sure the letter of the law is followed in this effort. |
