BISD receives funds from Oncor’s Energy Efficiency Program BUFFALO, TX – July 5, 2010 – Buffalo Independent School District (BISD) received a check this week from Oncor rewarding the District for installing energyefficient cooling equipment in the newly constructed high school. By installing the more efficient equipment, the school not only received a cash incentive from Oncor of $1,676 as part of its participation in Oncor’s Educational Facilities Program, it also reduced the energy costs for that building by an average of 15,500 kwh. Oncor sponsors the Educational Facilities Program to help educate schools about energy efficiency and to fund energy reduction measures. The program provides educational material, technical assistance and monetary incentives to schools based on energy conservation measures. In 2008, school districts in the Oncor service area saved 3,769,354 kwh (enough energy to power 12,000 ENERGY STAR homes for a month.) “Buffalo ISD has always been focused on identifying ways to conserve energy,” said Mrs. Jeannine Myers, Buffalo Business Manager. In addition to providing incentive checks to schools like Buffalo ISD who are proactively upgrading campuses to make them more energy efficient, Oncor also offers free energy planning to all schools in its service area. Jack Thomason, along with his facilities staff at Buffalo ISD, have been vigilant in their efforts to take advantage of the programs offered by Oncor,” said Brenda Walker, Oncor Area Manager. “Their efforts have not only resulted in cash incentives being awarded to the school but more importantly, sustainable energy savings.” O n - cor’s Educational Facilities Program is offered at no cost to the participating schools and truly helps to transform how schools think and act toward energy use. |
