Near-drowning incident ends happily

by Vanessa Goodwyn

A near tragedy on the Fourth of July weekend ended happily for the Jimmy Barnes family of Buffalo last week. Their four-yearold son was found floating lifelessly underwater in a pond on the family property. He was non-responsive when he was pulled from the water. CPR was begun and a call was placed to 9-1-1. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office dispatched the call to an emergency medical services unit which responded to the Barnes home on FM 1511.

The child was breathing by the time Air Evac arrived to life-flight him to Children’s Medical in Dallas. After treatment, he was released on July 5th and is reported to be doing fine.

Losing a child is every family’s greatest fear, and everyone involved rejoices with the Barnes in the outcome of the frightening situation. “It’s remarkable, as far as I’m concerned,” stated LCSO’s Peggy Ivey.
