Jimmy Mack Herring
Funeral services for Jimmy Mack Herring, age 79, of Buffalo were held Sunday, July 4, at 2 PM at the Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo. Rev. Melvin Lowe officiated at the service and burial followed in the Parker Cemetery located in the Flo Community.
On April 23, 1931, Jimmy Mack Herring was born to Bob and Annie (Blake) Herring in Harris County, Texas. He was the youngest of six boys born to that family. His parents also took in and raised two more boys on their farm near Houston. Jimmy married Clovis M. Byars on May 23, 1948. They were very young and very much “in love”. Jimmy worked as an antique refinisher and enjoyed buying, fixing and selling beautiful antique furniture. They moved to Leon County in 1978.
As an older man, Jimmy’s biggest love was his grandchildren...especially his granddaughter. He was very much a “family man” and spent much time doing things with his family. He always enjoyed fishing and called it “good medicine”. He and Clovis were members of the First Baptist Church in Buffalo. Jimmy and Clovis were also blessed with great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Danny Herring; an infant daughter, Karen Herring and all of his brothers. Jimmy Herring passed away in a Buffalo nursing home on July 1, 2010.
Surviving family includes his wife of 62 years, Clovis M. Herring of Buffalo; a daughter, Kathi Preiska of Houston; five grandchildren, Melanie Menefee and husband, Carl, of Buffalo, Danny Wise-Herring and wife, Marisa of Port Isabel, Texas, Matt Herring of Beeville, Texas, Nicolas Prieska and Zachary Preiska, both of Houston; seven great grandchildren, C.J., Colby, Collin, Marina, Dagen, Alex and Audrey Ann.
The pallbearers were Mark Degg, Ernie Ferguson, R.C. Dittmar, Don Chandler, C.J. Menefee and Billy Bravaneck.
The Herring Family requests that any memorials for Jimmy be made to Providence Hospice, 107 E. Palestine St., Mexia, Texas 76667.
