The goal of the program is to develop the love of reading by encouraging children to read.

Normangee Elementary was the 2010 recipient of the LCRTA Children's Book Program donation. Leon County RTA rotates yearly $100 donation between Buffalo ISD, Centerville ISD, Leon ISD, Normangee ISD and Oakwood ISD for children's books. The money is to be used to purchase books for elementary students. The books are to be purchased for individual children so that they can have the books to read at home. The students are selected by their teachers and the school librarian.
