Sherry’s Shots Contestant Novalene Thurston gives Champ Jeff Miller a taste of her third place tomato at the “perfect tomato” contest in Centerville. Sherry’s Shots For the second consecutive year, I have been privileged to be a judge in the “perfect tomato” contest at the Home and Garden Show held in the First United Methodist Church of Centerville. More than forty gardeners registered to grow the crimson fruit but only four brave gardeners entered this year’s contest. And only one could be the “perfect tomato.”

In the spring The Master Gardeners had determined that a tomato called “celebrity” would be the tomato of choice this year. Anyone could enter, but they were required to register and purchase a “celebrity” tomato plant.

First place went to Lake Limestone resident and Master Gardener Jeff Miller who swore that he had bribed the judges. I ain’t talking.
