One dead in head-on collision in Leon County

Nathan Cooley, 34, of Mexia, was traveling north along FM 39 in a 1978 Chevrolet pickup truck when he lost control of the vehicle on the slick road and veered into the southbound lane, directly into the path of a 1997 Mack truck. The pickup and 18-wheeler struck in a head-on collision.

The Department of Public Safety reported the collision happened about four miles from Jewett around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, during a rainstorm. Leon County Justice of the Peace Lori Reid pronounced Cooley dead. Charles Goff of Rusk, the driver of the 18- wheeler, was not injured.
