Vesta Fail Petty

Funeral services for Mrs. Vesta Fail Petty, age 104, were held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Marquez. Bro. Billy Evans officiated. Interment followed the services at Marquez Cemetery.

Mrs. Petty passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Hampton Assisted Living Center in Houston. Mrs. Petty was born January 24, 1906 to William Luther Fail and Margret Elizabeth Williams Fail. Vesta and her husband Eric were long time ranchers and merchants in Marquez. She had a special interest in her Texas bluebonnets, genealogy, DAR and DRT. In her later years she faithfully attended the First Baptist Church of Marquez.

She is survived by one son, Luther Eric Petty & wife Emma Lee of Spring; one daughter, Una Petty Jones & husband Melvin of Georgetown; twelve grandchildren, Steven Petty & wife Jeanette, Scott Petty, Janet Angst & husband Stewart, Billy Petty, Beverly, Markel Petty & wife Amy, Mitchell Petty & wife Jennifer, Michael Jones & wife Paula, Gloria Jones, Carolyn Petty Kerr & husband Jim, Shirley Tomlinson & husband Steve and Mark Jones & wife Lisa; twentyfour great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joyce Cooper; one niece, Libby Bowerman of Maryland; and other relatives.

Mrs. Petty was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Petty; one son, Alfred Marion (A. M.) Petty; one grandson, Robert Marion (Bobby) Petty; and twin brothers, Melton U. Fail and Welton R. Fail.
