Contributed photo School may be out, but the FFA students are still busy. On Monday, June 7, 2010, eight members of the Buffalo FFA attended the State FFA Ag 381 Clays Event. This is the third annual trap shooting event FFA students who have completed Ag 381, Wildlife and Recreation Management.

Each team member shoots 25 rounds of flying clay targets with a shotgun, Five rounds are shot from each of 5 stations, each 16 yards form the 'trap house' from where the clay targets are launched by an oscillating target thrower. Approximately 200 shooters forming 50 teams and representing 35 schools from across the state competed at the meet.

This was Buffalo's first year to compete at the event, and we were proud to bring home a banner. The all female team, consisting of Tarra Reeder, Shelby Reeder, Laken McCabe, and Keri Hawthorne, placed third.

The mixed gender team, Tarra Reeder, Shelby Reeder, Justin Ansley, and Dylan Ansley, tied for fifth with the team from Bellville. After a shootoff from the 22 yard line, the Buffalo team ended up on top by 6 'birds.'

The boys team held their own, placing a respectable 10 in a field of 35. Senior Dylan Ansley is the only team member who won't be eligilble next year. Ag science instructor and coach, Bobby Terry, is optomistic that his young team has a great future before them.
