Buffalo Chamber plans this year’s Stampede

By Sherry Matney

The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce held a special called meeting at the Buffalo Civic Center on June 10, 2010. Reitha Hullum, president of the Chamber explained the purpose of the meeting was to get better organized for the Stampede, the largest Chamber fundraising event of the year.

Hullum volunteered to be the Stampede Chair Person and other committee heads were finalized. Patricia Jones and Mollie Glick were present as new Chamber directors.

Russell Jonas, president of the Buffalo Youth Organization, made a formal request for $2,400 to cover the expense of hosting a TTAB district tournament and warm up tournament in July. Part of the funding will cover umpire costs which will be $90 per game for ten games for a total of $900. The remainder of the funds will be used to purchase a pitching machine which will cost between $1200 and $1500. The Chamber agreed to fund the project but will determine if Hotel/Motel funds can be used for any portion of the expense.

The first annual THPA (Texas Horseshoe Pitching Association) Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 and will feature “games of all types”. A double elimination horseshoe tournament will be the highlight and will have an entry fee of $5 per person. There will even be “redneck horseshoes” thrown. Proceeds will go to the THPA Junior Fund. The event will be held at the newly renovated horseshoe pitching complex on Sand Hill Cemetery Road in Buffalo.
