2010 Master Gardener Program in Leon County
      The Texas Agrilife Extension Service in Leon County will begin a new program for Master Gardeners on July 30, 2010. This highly trained core of volunteers will assist with programs and projects in Leon County. Master Gardeners are members of the local community who take an active interest in their lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens.

Leon County 4-H dominates State Round-Up!
      What an awesome year Leon County 4-H had at State Round-Up. State 4-H Round- Up was held June 7-11, 2010 at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. Leon County was represented in three categories which included Leaders 4 Life Skilla thon, Share the Fun-Poetry/ Prose, and Promote 4-H.

Summer Kids Kamp studies landscaping
      Summer Kids Kamps are a Go! The first Kids Kamp, provided by Texas AgriLife Extension Service Leon County, for the summer was held on June 7, 2010, at the Buffalo Public Library. The youth were first orientated with what landscaping is and then completed a drawing project, using their imaginations, of what their landscape would look like at their own house.

     AUSTIN – (June 7 2010) For the week ending June 5, feeder cattle prices at Texas auctions were mostly steady to $3 higher per hundredweight with a few locations to $6 higher and some to $5 lower. Demand remains good for a tighter supply of high quality feeders, especially in areas that have received adequate rainfall and expect good summer grazing.

      Due to its high yield potential and adaptability to marginal lands, switchgrass (Panacum virgatum) has received considerable press for its potential to contribute to the growing cellulosic ethanol industry. Many producers have considered entering this new industry, but the limited information on nutrient management of switchgrass needs to be addressed.
