Lyal Taylor Wedemeyer

Born on September 4, 1919 in Ash TX, Lyal ended his life of loving service to his family and the world on May 29, 2010 in Katy TX. He lived in circumstances such as farming with muledriven equipment in Buffalo TX, a year in the family ice business in West Virginia after completing high school, six years in the U.S. Army including two and a half years in the European theater during WWII. Lyal met his wife Alpha Nell Lyon in the 2nd grade at Buffalo. He played on the very first Buffalo football team in 1935. Lyal married Alpha Nell Lyon and took over and expanded the Lyon Oil business. In 1957 Lyal and family moved to Houston and passed the business to Bill Ryder and Gertrude Lyon Ryder to become Ryder Oil. Lyal served on the board of Stewart Memorial Methodist Church and the Buffalo ISD school board. After the 1957 move to Houston Lyal was a deacon in Clark Memo- rial and Galena Park United Methodist churches, and was a 60 year Mason, member of the VFW and the Gideons. In every setting he was an energetic, caring and faithful participant.

Lyal is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Alpha Nell Lyon Wedemeyer. His survivors include his sons, Wayne and wife Nancy of Austin, Ronald and wife Kathleen of Katy, and his grandchildren Christopher and wife Erin Wedemeyer, Jonica Moore, Keith and wife Simbry Wedemeyer, and Taylor Wedemeyer. His great grandchildren are Liam, Ayrton, Meelah, and Micah. Also surviving to mourn him especially are his nephews Jake and wife Sarah Lyon of Lufkin TX, and Willie and Sharon Lyon of Santa Fe NM and their daughters Lisa and Melissa.
