Contract awarded for new stadium

The BISD School Board met in a special session on Friday afternoon, June 4th, to finalize their decision on a new track, field and stadium at the new high school. Two bids were discussed at length, comparing materials, quality, etc. Jack Helmcamp made a motion, seconded by Dr. Russell Jonas to accept the bid of Hellas Construction. That motion failed by a vote of 2-5. A second motion was made to accept the bid of ATG Sports. Ron Goodwyn made the motion, it was seconded by William Gilliam, and carried 6-1, with Helmcamp casting the nay vote.

The Board also heard an update on the new high school and discussed plans for a walkthrough with representatives of the architectural firm ACI and contrac- tor Boone & Boone, prior to signing a Certificate of Substantial Completion to accept the building.

Finally, the Board next voted unanimously to employ two new teachers on probationary contracts. Rodolfo Rios was hired to teach at the high school and Jill Jones to teach at the elementary school.
