Beck launches campaign for State Representative slot
Marva Beck
Marva Beck, Republican nominee for Texas House of Representatives, District 57, officially kicked off her fall campaign this week. Beck said she wants to bring “a new perspective to state government” and “provide District 57 taxpayers with the conservative representation they expect and deserve.”
“The past 17 months have demonstrated to all of us that the same tired old ways of doing things just aren’t working in Washington or Austin. With state government looking at a potential $18 billion budget deficit, we need major changes in order to prevent massive tax increases. The simple fact is that the representation we have now cannot bring about that change,” Beck stated.
“Liberal spending and a lack of respect for taxpayers have put us in a financial straight jacket. We must have legislators who will hold the line on spending and look at each and every spending program and ask ‘is this truly necessary?’” Beck said.
“I began a conversation with the taxpayers of this district back in January when I filed for this office. The message I have been given is clear: don’t raise taxes, cut wasteful spending, respect our property rights and allow the private sector to lead the economic recovery,” she said.
“Voters in District 57 want to speak and be heard. I will listen and then be the voice for those who believe that we need to restore conservative values to District 57 and provide sound fiscal order to the state budget,” she said.
Marva Beck has been a Leon County rancher since 1979, and has made Leon County her permanent since 1991. Marva has worked for many years with the Post Oak Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D), a program for rural communities, ranchers and farmers created through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRSC), a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Marva served as Chairman of Post Oak RC&D for 2 terms. She is the Immediate Past President of the Texas Association of RC&D; President of the Southwest Region RC&D (which includes 6 states) and is the Secretary of the National Association of RC&D.
Marva Beck is active in her community and the First Methodist Church of Centerville where she is the Church Treasurer and serves as a Lay Reader and Usher. She organized and established the Future Chamber of Commerce for the young people of Centerville, has worked with the Centerville Chamber of Commerce and served on the Leon County Economic Development Board. She was instrumental in starting the process for organizing the “Friends of Ft. Boggy State Park”.
“I look forward to continuing my conversation with the citizens of District 57 about what they want and what they need state government to do, what they need state government not to do and what they need state government to stop doing,” Beck said.
