BHS Graduation 2010
The membership roll of Buffalo High School alumni grew by fifty last Friday, June 4th, as the Class of 2010 celebrated their graduation with Commencement exercises. For the last time, the current high school gym was packed for the occasion with proud family members and friends.
Honor graduates in the top ten percent of the class led the ceremonies, beginning with the welcome by Martha Zimmerman and invocation by Brooke Trahan. Valedictorian Morgan Anderson and Salutatorian Meredith Shaw both challenged their classmates with speeches that included poems and quotes from sages and Valedictoria Morgan Anderson addresses her classmates during BHS’ commencement exercises. Historian Michael Morelock led the students down Memory Lane.
School Board President Jim Scott, Vice President Jack Helmcamp and BISD Superintendent Jack Thomason participated in the presentation of diplomas, and the graduates displayed a full range of emotions as they enjoyed their Moment on the podium before a cheering crowd and flashing cameras. BHS Principal Don Elsom shared final thoughts with the group, then the ceremony was concluded with the School Song and the traditional tossing of the mortar board caps. As the Bison Band played the recessional music, the new graduates -- covered in Silly String -- filed out to join a hugfest in the breezeway.
Most of the grads spent the rest of the night at Project Graduation, where they enjoyed a last night of fun with their classmates and were treated to food, competed for prizes, played games and went home loaded with gifts from a generous community.
