Country Music in the country at Lone Star
Betty Meeks is a regular “walk on” at the Lone Star Jamboree.
This was the second Country Jamboree for 2010. The May weather was a little warm in the old Lone Star Gymnasium, but no one seemed to mind. Nick Watson engineered the event and has had a great track record for enticing some excellent talent to come all the way to Flo to play and sing.
The Jamboree was held on Saturday night at the Lone Star Community Center and this show featured Texas Express from the Palestine/Tyler area. The six member group played classic country including “Faded Love”, “I go out Walking After Midnight”, and “My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You”.
Another two man group who played country and gospel was Rimshot with Roy Pilgrim from Calvert and Jerry Williams from Bryan.
The show began with walk on talent and Nick’s Band, Country Connection, entertaining the guests. A bake auction was held and the Center surprised Noni Ward, a faithful worker at the Center, with the proceeds. Noni’s husband Butch experienced a stroke this week.
W. J. Copeland, with Texas Express, was lead singer for the band.
Jerry Williams and Roy Pilgrim, AKA Rimshot played good country music on Saturday night.
