City of Buffalo authorizes $150,000 from BEDC for Leon County Expo The regular May meeting of the Buffalo City Council was postponed due to the lack of a quorum on Monday. The Council met on Friday with an agenda that included disbursing quite a bit of money. Ken Jones, Executive Director of the Buffalo Economic Development Corporation, was authorized to make a donation of $150,000 to the Leon County Expo Center, and Tommy Neyland was on hand to accept the check on behalf of the county. According to Jones, “That was approved over a year ago by the BEDC Board, with the rational being that this is an investment for both jobs and tourism in Leon County and the Buffalo area -- and that’s our goal. The City Council agreed and approved the expenditure of that money.” The Council also granted a request by the Tri-County Horseshoe Pitching Club for $1900 for promotion and advertising. The money is to come from Hotel/Motel tax funds. Routine housekeeping matters and reports made up the rest of the meeting. During the departmental reports, Buffalo Police Chief Lance Pavelka brought the Council up to date on the progress of several pending cases, including the investigation of the recent burglary of the local Brookshire Bros. More evidence has been recovered, and it is believe to be linked to a chain of burglaries across the state. (SEE Buffalo Police Report, page 1A) Finally, the Council canvassed the votes from the recent City election, and officially declared the three seats on the council to be filled by John Maneval, Bob Winn and Brent Reeder. |
