Centerville Junior/Senior High Principal Bob Loomis will retire at the end of this school year. Loomis is one of those nice guys. His teachers like him. His bosses like him. And his students like him. There may be one or two kids who do not call him their best friend, but for the most part he is a well liked individual.
Bobby Dean Loomis was born in Fordyce, Arkansas but moved to Hardin, Texas when he was two, so he can almost be considered a true “Texan”. He grew up in Hardin; graduating high school there and then attended Texas A&M earning a double major in health/PE and Math.
His first teaching job was at Laredo United, which is located outside the city of Laredo. He taught math and coached for seven years before moving on to another West Texas town, Spring and then to Mercedes. Loomis taught math and coached at both schools.
Loomis spent ten years in Freer where he was not in the classroom but was head football coach, athletic director and assistant principal. Following Freer he moved to Gregory/Portland ISD and Uvalde IDS before moving to Centerville in 2001. He came to Centerville as assistant principal then accepted the Junior/Senior High Principal position in 2002.
Loomis has not been alone in his moving all over Texas, in June 1965 he married Tresia Madden and the couple has enjoyed the ride together for 45 years. They have two children, Christy and Robert, and two grandchildren.
Football and education must run in the Loomis genes because Bob and Robert coached together for three years in Uvalde. Robert is currently a principal at Graham High School.
Loomis says it really was not an accident that he and Tresia came to live and work in Leon County; Tresia has relatives in most of the highways and byways in these parts. Tresia’s maiden name was Madden and her mother’s maiden name was Noey. Noey. Between the two you’ve covered Marquez, Leona and Centerville.
Bob says “I don’t dare talk about anybody because I may be discussing a relative”.
As far as the Loomis’ short term plans? Play a few rounds of golf and take a full year off to do some traveling. The Loomis’ live at Hilltop Lakes so the golf course is in his back yard.
“I have some friends who have visited Niagara Falls in autumn. Tresia and I think we might go there this fall. Being in coaching and education, we’ve never been able to take an autumn trip in our married life,” was Bob’s answer.
