Buffalo’s NJHS students attend leadership training camp
      The National Junior Honor Society students at Buffalo Junior High attended a leadership training camp last week (May 5 - 7) at Forest Glen Learning Center in Huntsville. The students’ challenges included a low ropes course to learn team building, and a high ropes course for personal challenge.

Educator to undertake year-long mission trip
      Some people would say that teaching a classroom full of squirmy kindergarteners is enough of a challenge for anyone, but Buffalo ISD teacher Jennifer Womack has enjoyed that position for four years. Next month, however, when she says goodbye to her little ones, she begins an exciting new endeavor.

BISD students compete at State
      Buffalo High School sent two students to the State UIL Academic Meet in Austin last week. Senior Meredith Shaw was the silver medalist in Feature Writing. Samantha Reed placed 14th out of 28 competitors in Social Studies. The students were accompanied by faculty members Melonie Menefee and Jill Henson.

BES’ program is a hit -- as always
      Buffalo Elementary students, ESL teachers and parents outdid themselves this year in the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration. On Thursday students enjoyed games and students and guests were treated to authentic Hispanic cuisine provided by the parents.

Leave that wild animal alone, experts advise
      With spring come young, wild animals venturing from their nests and hiding places under the watchful eyes of their parents. Young animals often stray and appear to be abandoned; that’s when humans need to resist the urge to help, wildlife experts say. Some species, including birds, deer and snakes, are very active this time of year and are being seen more fre- quently.

Oakwood Pre-K and Kindergarten Round-Up
      Howdy all you parents out there! It is Oakwood ISD's Pre-K and Kindergarten Round-Up time! If you have a child that will be four years old by September 1, 2010, that child is eligible for the full day Pre- K program at Oakwood Elementary. If you have a child that will be five years old by September 1, 2010, that child is eligible for the full day Kindergarten program.
