Two headed calf born in Leon County

Notice the seam down the ear where the two heads are connected. Photo by Melissa Missildine Can you imagine Bubba Lipsey's surprise when he went out to check on his cows Thursday morning and found that not only had one of them given birth in the night but to a two headed calf?!

Fortunately or Unfortunately, depending on how you feel about that sort of thing, it was a stillbirth. The calve was rather large for a newborn and had two perfectly formed little faces. They were joined together at the head and shared one ear in between them. You could see a perfect seam running down the ear. They each had another ear on the other side, just as it should be. The body of the animal seemed to have developed normally.

Lipsey decided to take it up to the school's Ag Shop to show Wesley Henson, the Ag teacher. Word spread quick!

Do not let it be said that the teachers at Oakwood ISD do not take every opportunity to teach. When they heard about this anomaly, they proved that they most certainly will...and do! Class after class got to see the animal up close. Tina Rayborn, the Elementary Science teacher, was beside herself with excitement. She took the fifth graders out to see what before she could only show in books. After a thorough inspection, she let it be known that if Lipsey hadn't already made arrangements for the calf to go elsewhere, she'd love to have this once in a lifetime opportunity for her classes to dissect it. The big question on everyone's mind was, "If it formed two heads with two faces, did it also form two brains?" There would only be one way to know for sure. Rayborn and the students of Oakwood eagerly await a decision on who will get to claim this "Believe it or not" specimen.
