Leon County 4-H Shooting Sports team shines at District Match
      The Leon County Gun Club was the site of the 4H District 8 Rifle Match on Saturday, April 24th. Approximately 109 competitors from seven counties signed up to compete in three-position 22-calibre rifle shooting.

Leon County EEA spring activities
      Leon County Extension Education Association (EEA) has really been busy the past two months. First, they hosted their annual Cultural Arts competition on March 23, 2010. Decorations for the event were made by Oakwood EE club. They had spring and Easter in mind with the tables draped with lavender, pink and yellow tablecloths.

One shot -- one kill.
      Eleven-year-old Steven Millar of Oakwood shot and killed his first hog with a 223 caliber rifle on April 20th. Millar was on a hunt on a private property in Oakwood when he bagged the hog, which was estimated to weigh over 250 lbs. Steven is the son of Merry Millar and is a fifth grader at Buffalo Elementary.

     AUSTIN – (April 19, 2010) For the week ending April 17, feeder cattle price trends at Texas auctions were mixed with earlyweek sales mostly steady to $3 higher per hundredweight and sales later in the week steady to $4 lower. Fed cattle prices were steady to $2 lower.

      Boy Howdy! Gwen and I have really been burning up the roads in the old War Wagon and Toyoater running to and fro visiting folks and going to showin’s. We visited the fine folks in Anderson County for the Anderson Co. Youth Livestock Expo. This is a weeklong event featuring the livestock projects of the youngsters and their support teams (Parents!).

Recent rains encourage all crops, wildflowers
      COLLEGE STATION - - Most of Texas got exactly what it needed in the last week, either rain or a drying spell, according to Texas AgriLife Extension Service personnel. In most cases, what was needed was rain, and agricultural producers got from light drizzle to as much as 10 inches in a few areas.
