Community Calendar Veterans - take note! Leon County will host Veteran’s Appreciation Day on Saturday, May 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Veterans, active military and spouses no charge. Nonveterans’ meal is $10. Chow is served at noon at the Champion Ranch (4 miles south of Centerville on Hwy 1119.) Special guests will include the U.S. Cavalry. The North Creek Cemetery Association will hold our annual Memorial Day celebration and covered dish lunch on Saturday, May 1, 2010. There will be a short business meeting followed by lunch. Box 128, Centerville, TX 75833. The Buffalo Cemetery Association will hold their annual Memorial Meeting and Luncheon at the Buffalo Civic Center, 12 noon, May 2, 2010. For more information call 903- 322-3938. Leon County Tea Party group is set to meet on Monday, May 3 at 7 p.m. at Hilltop Lakes in the Tonkawa Room at the Lodge. BOUND FOR AGGIELAND? Attention, Graduating Seniors: Local Aggies have been extra generous this year and the Leon County A&M Club is proud to be able to offer one $500 scholarship in EACH school district in our county. The funds will be applied to your 2010 fall tuition at Texas A&M. Prospective recipients must: (1) be current graduates; (2) reside in Leon County; (3) have been accepted for enrollment at Texas A&M’s College Station campus. Applicatoins are now available from your high school counselor, or by contacting Vanessa Goodwyn (903-388-9305). APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MAY 7. The Jewett Police Department along with the Leon County Constable’s Office PCT #1, will be hosting a Barbeque and Dance on Saturday May 8, 2010 at the Jewett Civic Center. Brisket, Pork and Sausage will be available with two sides for just a $7.00 donation. A dance will be held starting a 8:00 pm, featuring , “The Broken House Band”. Admission is just a $5.00 donation with kids 12 and under free with an Adult. Poceeds to bebefits both departments equipment funds. Hope to see you there.
