Letters to the Editor Letter to the editor,In the upcoming bond issue for the Oakwood School District, it seems that the school board is being very odd. If they can’t pass a bond for 4 Million then they raise the ante and try for 4 and a half million. If you consider the low number of students in the school (noted by the school board to be about 125 students) and the size of the bond it seems that they want us to apply about 36,000.00 for each student. If you consider only the elementary school it cuts the student population by many. It seems reasonable that the school should make an attempt to realign the areas included in the district and save money by the students going a shorter distance to school. Many are on the school bus for over an hour each way. Another alternative would be to send the high school kids to a more established school and give the high school to the elementary school. In this time of increased taxes from Washington and others being planned we simply cannot afford to pay the enormous amount of taxes that this bond issue will cause. Tom Nolen |
