Junior High tracksters shine at District meet

Van’Go’photo The BJHS boys and girls competed in the District Track Meet in Trinity on Thursday afternoon, and both teams shined.

The talented team of 8th grade boys took second in the meet behind Corrigan-Camden. In field events, Tyler Adams was 1st in the high jump, and Bobby Dorman took 5th. Logan Jones was 1st in the long jump. Trent Martin placed 4th in the Triple Jump. Brendan Smith was 5th in Shot Put. On the track, Erik Avila was 5th in the 2400M run, Jones was first in the 100M Dash, and Dustin Sheffield was 6th. Smith won the 110 Hurdles and the 300M Hurdles, and Dorman was 3rd at the 300M distance. Jones won the 400M Run. Sheffield was 5th at the 200M Run and Mason Allen was 6th. In the 800M Race, Martin was 2nd and Oscar Stanley placed 5th. The 1600M Relay team (Smith, Dorman, Simpson and Jones) placed 2nd. The 800M Relay (Simpson, Adams, Kyle Read and Sheffield) was 4th. The 400M Relay Team (Martin, Adams, Pablo Ramirez and Simpson) was 2nd.

Van’Go’photo Buffalo’s 7th grade team was small in numbers but Coach Dennis Hartley pointed out, “We had eight guys that COMPETE.” The team took 2nd place at district. In field events, Anthony Campbell was 1st in the Shot Put. Dylan St. Pe’ won the High Jump. He was 2nd in the Long Jump, and Matthew Ayers was 4th. Jose Guzman was 2nd in the Triple Jump. On the track, Damon Magouirk was 2nd in the 2400M distance. In the 800M Run, Paul Mata was 2nd and Magouirk took 4th. Campbell was 2nd at the 100M Dash. Ayers was 4th in the 400M race. In the 200M race, Campbell was 2nd and Guzman was 4th. OT Garcia won the 110M Hurdles. In the 300M Hurdles, St Pe was 2nd and Garcia 4th. BJHS’ 800M Relay (St. Pe, Guzman, Mata and Campbell) won that event. The Mile Relay (St. Pe, Mata, Garcia and Guzman) finished 2nd.

Buffalo’s 7th grade girls track took second place overall in a tight race. In the High Jump, Lauren Helmcamp was 2nd, Marissa Jones 3rd and Kassidy Graves placed 4th.. Jones was first in the Triple Jump and Emmalea Shaw placed 6th. Lauren Helmcamp was 5th in the Long Jump and Carmen Simpson was 6th. On the track, Shaw placed 3rd in the 800M run and Macey Jo- nas was 5th. Simpson won the 400M run and Jones was 2nd. Jaelyn Dawn was 5th in the 1600M race. Hutchens was 3rd in the 300M Hurdles.The 800M relay team ( Taryn Morman, Shaw, Helmcamp, Kayla Hutchens) placed 4th. The 400M Relay (Morman, Jones, Erykah Anderson and Simpson) took 3rd. BJHS’ 1600 meter relay (Simpson, Jones, Helmcamp and Hutchins), placed 2nd.

Van’Go’photo The 8th grade girls won the 400m Relay with the team of Shelby Ballard, Chelsea Brewer, Jessica Presutti, and Evan Jones. The same foursome was 4th int he 800M Relay. Individuals placing the meet included: Hannah Laningham (5th in the 100M hurdles); Hailey Laningham (6th in the 100M Dash); Ballard (2nd in the 100M Dash, 2nd in the Long Jump and 5th in the Triple Jump); Chelsea Brewer (3rd in the 200M Dash); Julie Cook (3rd in the 2400M Run and 5th in the 1600M Run); Bethany Gaskins (3rd in the 800M Run and 6th in the 1600M Race); Mickie Chitwood (4th in the Shot Put); Taylor Rutledge (3rd in the Discus), and Katie Glick (6th in the Discus).
