Alta Rea Morse

Funeral services for Alta Rea Morse, age 75 of Texarkana and formerly of Jewett, were held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville, Texas. Rev. Richard Ray officiated at the service and interment was in Concord Cemetery west of Centerville. Walters Funeral Home in Centerville was in charge of arrangements. Visitation was held on Monday, April 12, 2008 from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to receive friends.

Alta Rea Morse was born on October 24, 1934 in Corsicana, Texas to John Alford & Minnie Ola (Stevens) Frazier. She was mainly a homemaker but worked a variety of jobs including a position with International Paper in Springhill, LA, as a seamstress in a department store in Florida and in a convenience store in Louisiana. She loved to sew, cook and garden. A point of particular pride for her and her family was when she earned her G.E.D. from the Centerville ISD on April 29, 1990. She had left school as a young woman to be married and had never received her diploma.

Mrs. Morse had lived in the Jewett/Robbins area for several years before moving to Queen City, near Texarkana, to be near a daughter. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Atlanta, TX. Her health declined over the last few years and she passed away in a nursing facility in Texarkana on April 9, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents and her second husband, W.B. Morse, who was father of her three youngest children.

Alta Rea Morse is survived by seven children, Patty Cantrell of Jewett, TX, Barbara Hooper and her husband, Russell, of Houston, TX, Cindi Bridges of Houston, TX, John Crain and his wife Becky of Nacogdoches, TX, Ken Morse of Stonewall, LA and his twin, Kim Calhoun and her husband Dusty of Willis, TX and Darla Quarles and her husband Greg of Douglassville, TX; a brother, James Frazier of Jewett, TX; a sister, Joyce Bolton of Beaumont, TX; James Earl Crain, her first husband and father of her four eldest children; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers: Jason Cantrell, Chad Grahmann, Darwin Bolton, Doyle Sanders, Jorge Juarez and Mr. Barnes. Serving as honorary pallbearers: Russell Hooper, Dusty Calhoun and Greg Quarles.
