Bison fall to Tigers at CHS

The Bison travelled to Centerville on Saturday afternoon to face a Tiger team looking for revenge, after BHS won the teams' first meeting earlier in the season, 8-7. This time it would be the Tigers who came out on top, 8-1, as the Bison had trouble getting anything going offensively, and the Tiger bats were hot.

The Bison batters faced pitcher Clay Hardee, while freshman Ty Tollett took the mound for BHS. The game was a scoreless defensive battle through two-and-a-half innings, with each team leaving one man stranded each inning.

CHS got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring Hardee's pinch runner Michael Peters, plus Gwodsz and Ryan Payne before the Bison defense was able to set the Tigers down with a man stranded. CHS added a run by Cody Bonilla in the bottom of the fourth.

BHS pitcher Travis King BHS pitcher Travis King Buffalo tried to get something going in the top of the fifth, with singles by Logan Beard and Tate Hartley and Jacob Rodell, but the Tiger defense did not let the Bison push a run across the plate.

CHS added to their lead in the bottom of the inning when Jeremy Hammock scored and Bonilla hit a threerun homer over the left field fence that also scored Josh Wright and Colten Harris, bumping the Tiger advantage to 8-0. The Bison got Out #3 leaving runners at second and third.

Buffalo got on the scoreboard in the sixth. Hartley stretched a single into a double, and scored on a solid hit up the third baseline by Travis King. Aaron Bell, King and Dylan Ansley were stranded.

King came in to pitch for the Bison in the bottom of the inning, and Hammock led off with a double, but the next three batters went down in consecutive order.

In their last at-bat, Buffalo went three-up, three-down and conceded the contest to the Tigers, 1-8.

Tollett pitched 3 strikeouts in 5 innings and gave up 2 walks. King pitched 1 inning and threw 1 strikeout and 0 base-on-balls.

Hartley was the leading hitter for Buffalo with a double, and King and Beard hit singles.

VS New Waverly

Earlier in the week the Bison had a road game at New Waverly, The Buffalo coaching staff went through most of their stable of pitchers but were unable to contain the district leaders, and New Waverly won the contest, 12- 2, remaining undefeated.

Starting pitcher Ryan Read pitched 2 innings, King came in for 2/3 of an inning, Taylor McGill pitched 1 inning and Hartley pitched 1/3 of a stanza.

Offensively, Bell was the leading hitter with a pair of doubles good for two RBIs. Read had one hit and scored a run, and Hartley scored the second run.

COMING UP: The Bison host the Groveton Indians on Tuesday, April 6 at 4:30, then travel to Trinity on Friday, April 9. April 13 brings Corrigan to BHS and Onalaska will be here April 16, 4:30.
