Bison drop two heartbreakers last week in district play

The Buffalo baseball team fell on hard times last week as they dropped two hard-fought district games. ONALASKA
The Bison came out on the short end of a road trip to Onalaska, 11-14. Ryan Read was the starting pitcher and pitched 3-2/3 innings. The Indians hit him for 10 runs (2 earned) on ten hits. Read threw three strikeouts and 2 bases on balls. Ty Tollett pitched the last 2-1/3 innings and threw 5 strikeouts, 0 walks and gave up 4 unearned runs on 3 hits.
Offensively, the Bison had 9 hitsled by Aaron Bell (2 for 3), Travis King (2 for 4), and Dylan Ansley (2 for 4). ANDERSON-SHIRO
Perfect baseball weather on Friday afternoon was the setting for a shootout with the Anderson-Shiro Owls. The Bison brought their “A” game for the home crowd and gave fans plenty to cheer about, although the Owls managed to squeek out a one-run victory.

BHS pitcher Ty Tollett gave up one run in the top of the first and two men were left on. Buffalo answered quickly, scoring Tate Harley and Bell in the bottom of the inning on walks and savvy base running. Travis King got credit for an RBI.
The Owls tied the score at 2-2 with a two-out rally in the top of the second. In the Bison’s at-bat, Logan Beard had a stand-up double to deep center, stole 3rd and scored on a double by Hartley to regain the lead, 3-2. Two runners were stranded.
A-S tied things up again with a run in the third, but the Bison defense bowed up for Out #3 with two runners left on base. Buffalo could not push a run across the plate in the bottom of the inning.
The Owls’ bats were hot in the 4th inning and they batted through the lineup and scored 6 runs to take a 9-3 lead.

The Bison answered with a big inning of their own. Jacob Rodell started things off with a single to short center. Jose Dominguez followed with another, and Hartley loaded the bases with another. Read connected to score Rodell, and Dominguez scored on a passed ball. Bell reached on a fielder’s choice that picked Hartley off at second. King stretched a single into a double on a A-S error, Ansley doubled, and Beard singled. Bell and King came across

the plate to close the gap to 8-9 before the Owls managed to get Out #3, leaving two Bison were stranded.
Bell came in to pitch for Buffalo in the top of the 5th and A-S added an insurance run with an over-the-fence homer.
Bell scored for Buffalo in the bottom of the 6th, bringing the score to 10-9.
In the top of the 7th, A-S loaded the bases, but the Bison managed a double play to set them down. Trailing by one in the bottom of the inning, Hartley got on with a walk but was stranded.
Tollett pitched 4 innings with 2 strikeouts, 4 walks and gave up 9 runs on 10 hits. Bell pitched one strikeout in 3 innings and gave up 1 run, 2 hits, and 2 walks. Beard led the hitting (3 for 3 with a double and a walk), Hartley was 2 for 3 with 2 walks and Bell was 1 for 1 with 3 walks.
THIS WEEK Buffalo hosts New Waverly at 4:30 on Tuesday, March 30. To avoid a conflict with the Premium Sale at the Livestock Show on Friday, the BHS/Centerville contest will be played on Saturday, April 3 at 2:00 at CHS.
