Ollie Mae Hughes

Funeral services for Ollie Mae Hughes, age 92 of Buffalo, Texas were held 2 pm Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas with Dr. David Kimberly and Rev. Johnny Veretto officiating. Interment was in the Buffalo City Cemetery.

Ollie Mae Hughes was born in Franklin, Texas on March 12, 1918 to Andrew J. and Tennie Mae (McAlister) McKnight. Ollie Mae lived in Buffalo most of her life, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Buffalo. She worked at Parker’s Pharmacy in Buffalo for twenty eight years. It was her lifelong dream to be a nurse, and when she was in her mid-fifties, she became a LVN. Ollie worked as a nurse in Teague, Centerville, Fairfield, and at the Buffalo Nursing Home. She liked to read, paint ceramics, make rock gardens and work in her yard. She also loved to baby-sit children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Finis Hughes; an infant son, Finis Gerald Hughes; three brothers, Bailey McKnight, Junior McKnight, and Dean McKnight; and one sister, Bernice Ansley. Mrs. Ollie passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Buffalo.

She is survived by her son, John Wesley Hughes and his wife, Helen of Palestine, Texas; daughter, Jean Stanton and her husband, James of Buffalo, Texas; a sister, Jean Hughes of Fairfield, Texas; three grandchildren, Vicki Hardy and her husband, Larry of Buffalo, Texas, Tracy Lynn McCleskey and her husband, Mike of New Caney, Texas, and Dale White and his wife, Nita of Corpus, Christi, Texas; eight great grandchildren, Candice, Amanda, Casey, Clayton, John, Collin, Brandon, and Aaron.

The pallbearers were Jonah Heil, Mike McCleskey, Larry Hardy, Dan Ansley, Robert Horstman, Herman Ansley, David Lott and Charlie Waters.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2242 West Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030-2008, Tel. # 713-314-1313.

Walters Buffalo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
