Morris pitches perfect game in Groveton
LEFT: Pitcher Rachel Morris means business when she steps on the mound for the Lady Bison.
Junior pitcher Rachel Morris rebounded from a 5-7 loss to Centerville earlier in the week to pitch a perfect game on Friday in Groveton. The Lady Bison defeated the Lady Indians 15-0 in three innings. Morris threw only 31 pitches in the effort.
Ten batters face the Groveton pitcher in the first inning. Bats were hot as everyone made contact. Jennifer Pate hit a single to center before Nikki Dorman singled as well. Pate stole home to give Buffalo a 1-0 advantage. Morris hit a single with an extra base. Heather Sigert doubled to left to score two runs and the Lady Bison led 3-0. Lindsey McGill reached on an error. Meredith Shaw singled to right, scoring two more runs for the Lady Bison. Heather Egan drew a walk before Courtney Cunningham's fielder's choice rang up the second out. A fly to center retired the side.

The first batter reached a full count before Morris earned her first strike out of the game. Dorman connected with Shaw for the next two outs and the Lady Bison were back at the plate.
Pate's lead off bunt got her to base with two extra bases on errors. Dorman made solid contact, but centerfield was at the ready for the out. Dorman got the rbi after Pate tagged up and headed home. With two outs, Sigert started a rally with a single. McGill, Shaw and Egan all hit doubles to run up the score to 9-0 in favor of the Lady Bison.
Defense prevailed in the bottom half of the second inning. Egan hosed a fly to right field, and Jordyn Briscoe snagged one behind second. Morris struck out the last batter.
Briscoe led off with a double and scored after two stolen bases. Pate drew a walk before Dorman reached on an error. Morris singled to load the bases. Sigert advanced on balls which scored one more. McGill challenged the short stop who bobbled the ball. Pate and Dorman scored off McGill. Shaw stroked a single with an extra base and cleared the bases for the 15-0 score.
Morris struck out the first batter of the third inning. Dorman once again fielded cleanly to Shaw for the second out before Morris retired the third batter for the win.
The Lady Bison are 2-1 in district play. Buffalo will host trinity on Tuesday at 4:00. The Lady Bison will travel to Corrigan-Camden on Friday for a 6:00 start.
