Junior High track season opens with Bremond meet

The Junior High track teams entered their first meets last week in Bremond and both the seventh and eighth grade boys teams from Buffalo took first place honors.

The junior high teams competed in Leon on Friday, March 12, and results will be reported as soon as they are available.

The junior high athletes’ next outing will be at Centerville on March 26th.

Junior High girls take 3rd, 4th

In their first track meet ever, Buffalo's seventh grader girls worked their way to a third place finish at the Bremond track meet. Franklin and Bremond took top honors in the team race. For the Lady Bison, it was a learning experience.

With the weather a nuisance in the week prior, the Lady Bison spent most of their practice time indoors. Field event performances suffered without a chance to address these events. The bright spot in the field was the high jump. Marissa Jones, Kassidy Graves and Lauren Helmcamp finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the narrow field.

Jaelyn Dawn took second in the 2400 meter run. Karina Sotelo and Annelle Escobar placed fifth and sixth.

After taking a tumble in the first curve, Macey Jonas recovered for a fifth place finish in the 800 meter dash.

Emma Shaw, Erykah Anderson, Helmcamp and Kayla Hutchins earned bronze in the 800 meter relay.

Carmen Simpson won the 400 meter dash while Kendall Lee and Graves completed the lap with the fifth and sixth best times.

Dawn and Sotelo finished third and fifth in the 1600 meter run.

The eighth grade Lady Bison opened the 2010 season with a fourth place finish in Bremond. Buffalo turned in strong performances in several events, but the competition was fierce throughout the night.

Chelsea Brewer, Jessica Presutti, Evan Jones and Shelby Ballard teamed up for gold in the 400 meter relay and the 800 meter relay. Ballard had the second best leap in the long jump while Bethany Gaskins earned second in the 800 meter run.
