The kids of Centerville will be splishing and splashing very soon
Councilmen Warren Baillio and Bobby Walters discuss the steps involved to annex Champion Technologies properties into the City of Centerville. Sherry’s Shots
The Centerville City Council held its regular meeting on Thursday, March 11, 2010 in the Municipal Building Meeting Room in Centerville. All Council members were present with the excep- tion of John Franks. With few items on the agenda the meeting proved to have few issues to concern the City fathers.
In August 2009, Marilyn Johnson addressed the Council expressing the need for a water park or splash pad in Centerville similar to the one in Buffalo’s Shelly Pate Park. Representing the Economic Development Corp. (EDC) Councilwoman Tammy Mason updated the Council on progress of this matter. The EDC has had three designs for splash pads and have agreed on one which is a circle with a 20’ circumference and will recycle the water used. Mason explained that without recycling ability the park would use the same amount as a swimming pool every day. The splash pad will be located behind the old fire station.
The Council revisited an issue brought before them in last month’s meeting by Councilman Warren Baillio concerning water for his business, Champion Technologies which is located just outside the Centerville city limits. Baillio said he was on a tight time frame and has contracted to have a second water well drilled on the Champion property. However, he would like to have the city water as a backup and to use for drinking. Since the property is outside the city limits it would need to be annexed by the city in order to receive city water. Attorney Charley Johnson is exploring the next step in the process with everyone on the Council , including Baillio, being cautious about showing favoritism to a Councilman.
The Council declared a City election to be held on May 8, 2010 for Mayor and two Council Members. They appointed Patricia Boykin as election judge and authorized the hiring of two election clerks.
