Van’Go’photo Don’t let anyone tell you that you must sacrifice culture or the arts to live in rural East Texas. It’s here -- you just have to look for it. A prime example would be the productions offered by The Palestine Community Theatre, which this month brings to life the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, “Little Women”. The local version of the Broadway musical is directed by Sandy Hanson and features talented actors and musicians from across the Tri-County area. (Buffalo even has a performer in the cast -- April Smith, BHS class of ‘05!) The show is performed at the beautifully restored Texas Theater in downtown Palestine. The story is charming, the acting is professional and the music will blow you away. Chaundra Dantin of Palestine plays the lead role of Jo March, and she brings just the right enthusiasm to her character. The musical numbers make the classic tale fresh and new, and the audience will find themselves truly caring about Alcott’s heroines, as presented by the talented cast. There’s plenty to laugh (and even a little to cry) about.

Opening night for “Little Women” will be March 19th. The production is also offered March 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday shows are at 2:00. Tickets are available at Education Unlimited (903-723-8383) or the Palestine Chamber of Commerce (903-729-6066), and are a very reasonable $12/adults, $6/children. The Texas Theater is located at 213 West Crawford. For more information, go to www.thetexastheater.com
