Oakwood teams begin track season

The OHS Panthers and Lady Panthers track teams started their season in Alto this last week. Although they had not had much time to practice, both the girls and the boys did place in several events.

The girls:

Seniors Christina Hudson and Felicia Williams expressed disappointment in the first efforts of the Lady Panthers but said they have high hopes of doing better at the next track meet in Douglass this week. Hudson placed 6th in the shot put and threw 85’ 4” inches to take 2nd in the discus. Williams took first place in the the high jump at 5’ and got 2nd place in the long jump with a 16 foot leap. Ashley Owens placed 5th in the high jump. The Lady Panthers’ 800-Meter relay team came in 5th place. The relay team consists of Ashley Owens, Rickesha Owens, Hudson, and Williams.

The boys:

Senior Kealyne Durham picked up first place in the high jump clearing 5’ 6” and also took first place in the long jump with a leap of 19’ 11”. Marcel Howard came in 6th place in the long jump. Randall Dunn came in 6th place in the 100M dash. The boys 800M relay team picked up 5th place.

Next the teams traveled to Douglass.

The girls:

Hudson placed 4th in the shot put and the discus at this meet. Williams placed 1st again in the high jump and moved up to 1st in the long jump as well. The relay team of Rickesha Owens, Ashley Owens, Hudson, and Williams came in 1st place in the 400 meter relay and 5th in the 800 relay.

The boys:

Howard placed 6th in the long jump. Dunn ran an 11.79 to pick up 1st place in the 100M Dash and 24.23 to get 1st in the 200M. Hicks got 3rd place in the discus with 97' 5". Robert Myrick ran a 59.54 for 4th place in the 400M Run.

Both teams are looking forward to their next track meet in Lovelady on Thursday.
