Centerville Tigers fall in Regional Quarter-Finals

Sherry’s Shot The Tigers defeated Houston YES 62-51 on February 26th but fell to Anahuac 48-39 in Tomball in the regional quarter-finals on March 1st to close out their very successful season with a 27-7 mark.

Against Houston YES the Tigers held a 10-8 advantage after the first quarter but fell behind by 1 at half time 23-24. The third quarter was all Centerville as they burned the nets for 22 points to grab a 45-39 lead. The Tigers stretched their margin in the fourth quarter by outscoring Houston by 5 and won by a 62-51 margin.

The Tigers shot 83 % from the free throw line as they hit 35-42 as Michael Gwosdz converted 19-20 and Clay Hardee 8-12 to lead the Tigers. Gwosdz finished with 26 points and Hardee tossed in 20 to pace the Tigers on offense. Hardee collected 13 rebounds and Jonathan Cloud pulled down 6 to help the Tigers control the boards.

Sherry’s Shots After winning the area championship the Tigers traveled to Tomball to meet Anahuac in the regional quarter-finals on March 1st. The Tigers got off to a fast start and had a 15-5 lead after the first quarter but Anahuac trimmed the deficit to 4 at half time. The Tigers were outscored by 11 in the third quarter and fell behind 31-38 going into the final quarter. The Tigers could only muster 8 points in the final quarter and fell 39-48 and fell from the playoffs.

Jonathan Cloud scored 10 points and Clay Hardee tossed in 9 to lead the Tigers. Hardee had 10 rebounds and Cloud 7 to pace the Tigers on defense.

The Tigers closed out a very good year with a record of 27-7. Coach Hardee said “The young men were a pleasure to coach all year peaking at the right time in the play offs and we are looking forward to fielding a good team next year”.

The all-district teams will be announced after the finals are played in Austin on March 12th and 13th because district champion New Waverly made it to the final four in Austin by winning their regional tournament.

Good luck to New Waverly as they go for the state championship in Class 2A.
