Van’Go’photo The Region 9 THSRA high school rodeo athletes are winding down their season. Rodeo #11 was held at the Corsiciana Expo Center on Sunday, March 7, and that leaves only the Finals Rodeo and awards ceremony coming up on March 20th at Crockett’s Porth Arena. The standings are close in a lot of events and the tension was high as these cowboys and cowgirls competed Sunday, vying for saddles and a trip to the State THSRA rodeo.

Centerville cowgirl Callie Padgett was definitely up for this rodeo and placed high in several events. The CHS sophomore won the Goat Tying in 7.600 seconds, then earned second in Breakaway Roping with a 3.130. Padgett then ran the Barrell Racing pattern in a blistering 15.857, good for second in that highly competitive event. BHS freshman Heather Humphries also placed in the Barrels, taking 5th with a 16.068 run.

Austin Courmier placed 10th in Calf Roping with a 21.610.

Oakwood’s Cydney Kessler earned some All Around points in Pole Bending with a 15.22-sec run good for 15th.

Recapping the event standings, Courmier still leads in Steer Wrestling. Humphries is currently in second place in Barrels and leads the girls for the title of Rookie of the Year. BHS freshmen Bryce and Blake Strack are one-and-two in the boys’ Rookie competition. Padgett stands second in the All Around Cowgirl competition and Courmier is in second and closing in on the All-Around Cowboy title.
Centerville’s Callie Padgett is back at full speed, placing in the Top Two in three events at Sunday’s THSRA Rodeo #11. Van’Go’photo Centerville’s Callie Padgett is back at full speed, placing in the Top Two in three events at Sunday’s THSRA Rodeo #11. Van’Go’photo
