Track teams open 2010 season with success at Centerville Meet

LADY BISON
The BHS ladies competed in a track meet at Centerville on Thursday, February 25 with eight schools participating. Head Coach Daryl Skelton has the largest team BHS has fielded in many years, with 25 girls out for track, and they had good success in the first meet of the season.
BHS finished 4th in the Varsity bracket. In field events, Samantha Atkinson took 2nd place in the shot put and Jalissa Corbin placed 6th in the event. BHS also has some strong young jumpers. Freshman Raven Lott took 3rd in the long jump competition and sophomore Kelsey Canady took 4th in the triple jump. On the track, freshman Kylan Ferguson placed 2nd in the 1600M run and 5th at the 800M distance. Desiree Worthy took 3rd in the 400M dash and TiOnna Adams was 5th in the 200M Dash.
BHS' relay teams have a new look at this point, with senior anchor Kaila Grissett sidelined from surgery after breaking her nose in the final basketball game of the season. BHS' 400M Relay (Brooke Trahan, Desiree Worthy, Kelsey Canady and Raven Lott) took 2nd at Centerville. as did the 800M Relay (TiOnna Adams, Kelsey Canady, Brooke Trahan and Raven Lott) .
In Junior Varsity competition BHS placed 2nd overall, dominating the sprints and doing well on both field and track events.
BHS ruled in the 100M Dash, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively, going to Zelneisha Lockett, Hannah Wilson and Angeles Valles-Villa. Lockett also won the 200M Dash, with Erin Trahan taking 2nd. Kimberley Rendon took 4th at 800M and again at the 1600M distance. Jumper Hannah Wilson placed 1st in the long jump and 2nd in the triple jump. Ana Lopez was 2nd in the Discus and 3rd in the Shot Put, and teammate Ella Corbin was 2nd in the Shot and 4th in Discus.
BISON
The Bison track team started the season short-handed due to the success of the BHS basketball team. Coach Clay Hodges took a small team to the CHS meet and the Bison ran in the JV division, where they earned 70 points.
Sprinter Jorge Hererra took first in both the 100m Dash and the 200m Dash, freshman Jose Dominguez finishing 3rd in the 100M race. Harley Eakin and Austin Courmier taking 4th and 5th, respectively in the 200M. Calvin Young took 1st at 400M distance.
In the relays the 4x200M team (Clayton Smith, Eakin, Jonathan Cates and Courmier) placed 2nd. The 4x400M team (Dominguez, Smith, Cates and Young) placed 3rd.
On March 4th the Bison and Lady Bison will compete at Bremond High School, and on March 11th they will participate in the Leon Track Meet.
