The Centerville Tigers lost their last district game to Corrigan Camden 29-38 but defeated San Augustine 46-33 in bidistrict and Houston Yes South East by 12 points to advance to the regional quarter-finals to be played on March 1st in Tomball against Anuahuac. DISTRICT FINALE

On February 16th the Tigers closed out their regular season with a 29-38 loss to Corrigan-Camden. The Tigers had already clinched a spot in the playoffs so the loss was meaningless. Michael Gwosdz had 13 points, Jonathan Cloud 8, Clay Hardee 5, and Jamal High 3. Gwosdz snared 8 rebounds and Jamal High gathered 8 to pace the Tigers on defense. BI-DISTRICT

The Tigers faced the San Augustine Wolves in the first round of the State playoffs on Wednesday evening at the Angelina College gymnasium in Lufkin. CHS fans on hand for the 8:00 game had plenty to cheer about as their Tigers won the contest 46-35 to take the title of Bi-District Champs.

Things were tied up a few times in the opening moments, but senior Michael Gwosdz soon led the Tigers to an 8-4 led at the quarter. A three-pointer by Jeremy Hammock helped spring the Tigers to a nine-point advantage in the second quar- ter, and the halftime score was 18-10, CHS. The Tigers were able to keep the Wolves at bay throughout the second half and scored 18 points in the final period to take the win and advance to the Area matchup on Friday.

Gwosdz (13) and Jamal High (12) led the Tiger scoring, followed by Clay Hardee (9) and Johnny Cloud (7). Hammock’s three and a bucket by Ryan Payne completed the scoring for CHS. Cloud pulled down 10 rebounds, Hardee 9 and High 6. Payne picked the Wolves’ pocket for several steals to lead the team in that statistic. The Tigers defeated San Augustine 46-33 on February 24th for the bi-district championship.

Good luck Tigers as you continue your play in the state play offs.
